Map to come

In equine sports our partner, the horse, is very susceptible to influences, positive or negative, from the rider or driver. A through understanding of your influence on your equine partner is as important on the trail as it is in the show ring and in any discipline. The rider’s position can put the horse out of balance, make a horse appear crooked, drop out of a gait, or affect the straightness of a jumping line. Your horse knows his/her job and rider biomechanics have a huge influence on how well s/he can perform on the trail or in the show ring. Our May clinic at Doris Norton’s Big Bend Farm offers a unique opportunity to receive an introduction to the complex science of biomechanics* and its uses and practicality for you and your barn in layman’s terms. Attendees will learn a series of exercises on and off the horse to improve general riding abilities. Handouts will be provided. It promises to be a fun time for all with a good mix of lively discussion, instruction, and plenty of hands-on activities. Time will be divided between time in the house and time in the barn. It is suggested to wear attire that you can comfortably move in. If you plan to bring a horse or try exercises on a horse it is strongly encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and a helmet.

Presenter Alison Egan, MS has worked in the fields of biomechanics and exercise physiology with elite athletes at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego, CA, and currently heads the Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Hudson Hospital in Hudson, WI. Alison also runs At Your Best, LLC a fitness instruction, personal training, and biomechanical analysis business specifically for equestrians.

*Biomechanics is the sport science field that applies the laws of mechanics and physics to human performance, in order to gain a greater understanding of performance in athletic events through modeling, simulation and measurement.

Hope to see you there!
