2005 Parades to come.
2004 Parades
The
WMHC Parade unit participated in five parades in 2004. Many thinks
to our loyal sponsor, Kraemer Brothers Construction of Plain,
WI for helping to finance our travels.
June
Canoe Festival Parade -- Darlington, WI
The
morning of June 13th threatened rain, but by the time we all arrived
in Darlington and got our horses ready, the sun had begun to shine.
In spite of previous wet weather and being parked right next to
the Pecatonica River, there were no mosquitoes! We had five riders
plus Jim Metz's buckboard and Jessica Overturf leading her 3 month
old filly. The parade costumes looked great with the new red scarves
adding just the right touch to our blue, white and silver garb.
July
Great Circus Parade -- Baraboo, WI
Our
unit was the 7th to venture out into the people-lined streets
of Baraboo. How wonderful to see the crowds paying patriotic respect
for the Stars and Stripes carried by Darcy Overturf. It was fantastic
to be in the Circus Parade again. Many thanks to our behind-the-scenes
helpers: members Phyllis Albert, Marie Stewart and Annie Randall.
Witwen
4th of July Parade -- Witwen, WI
Mother
Nature was uncooperative, forcing our unit to don its rain ponchos
(the show must go on, you know). This is a VERY long parade through
a very tiny town!
Plain
Parade -- Plain, WI
We
had beautiful weather for the Plain Parade on July 25th and the
people of Plain do love their parade! We had 7 riders, the buckboard,
3 foals(!) and two walkers carrying the Kraemer Brothers' banner.
September
Cheese
Days Parade -- Monroe, WI
Participating
in this parade is always an honor because it is so large, well-run
and VERY well attended. While waiting to join the parade, we were
amused to see a large contingent of dachshunds following the Oscar
Mayer Weinermobile. Bet they were hoping for a hot dog or two
after the long walk!
Our
Morgans were steady and well-behaved, even when the Wal-Mart trailer
in front of us dumped a large container of Twinkies at the feet
of the crowd lining the road, causing kids to scurry everywhere.
We had seven riders, the buckboard and FOUR foals! Everyone loves
those babies!
Afterward,
our unit remained at the fairgrounds to welcome folks to our "Meet
the Morgan" event, where kids and their parents and grandparents
came to pet the horses and learn more about our Morgans. We had
great promotional items to pass out and our gentle horses as ambassadors
of this wonderful breed.
This
year's Parade Unit participants were chairpersons Darcy Overturf
and Jerry Coffey, Judy tate, Connie Humphrey, Mary Lou Neidhart,
Jim & Deb Metz, Jessica Overturf, Debbie Fairbanks, Jessica
Erdman, Jenny Parchem, Lizzie Chiquoine, Michelle Mosley, Chelsea
McDermott, Jessie Parchem, Ashley Connor, Marla Norton and Dave
Fairbanks. Thanks to Mary Lou for keeping our gear clean and organized
and keeping us all in line!
